Rate Increase FAQ's

During the October 2025 VEC Annual Meeting, General Manager, Blaine Warzecha, shared that a combination of factors impacting the energy industry could require a future rate adjustment.

The last rate increase was in 2022. Prior to that, a rate adjustment did occur in 2016, where rates were modified to recover costs more equitably but there was no over-all increase and it provided no additional margins for VEC.

Those who attended the VEC annual meeting heard Trey Ruschhaupt, board president, state that after carefully reviewing our operating costs and long-term needs, VEC contracted with a nationally recognized rate-consulting firm to conduct a cost-of-service study that identified all costs of providing service to each member group based on the material, operational and infrastructure costs required to serve our members and meet the financial covenants required by our lending agencies. The study was provided to the Board of Directors for final approval which occurred in November 2025.

The VEC Board of Directors approved during the November 2025 board meeting to increase rates to produce an increase in revenue by 7.09%.

The rate increase change will take effect on April electric bills, covering usage from February 17 through March 17.

Yes, on Monday, February 16, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the VEC Headquarters Community Room to review the rate increase in more detail and address any additional questions.
